This five week online photography class is for students ages 11-18.
Class will begin January 2021.
There will be a maximum of 6 students per class.
After the signup deadline, we will determine a day and time to meet that works for everyone.
We will meet once a week for five weeks. Each class is about an hour long.
School is demanding, and the last thing I want to do is add pressure or stress to their lives. Therefore, we will complete most exercises in class. I will give optional assignments in between classes, but nothing is required of them outside of class.
After each session, I will email them a downloadable pdf summary of the lesson.
We will cover these topics and more:
- How to take advantage of all the tools a smartphone camera has to offer (including some lesser known techniques)
- How to "see" light and shadow and understand how they can change a photo
- What is composition and how to use it in a photo
- Ideas about what to photograph
- The best mobile editing apps and how to use them
Above all else, photography should be fun. Although the goal is to capture better pictures, I emphasize the benefits of the creative process. This keeps students from getting discouraged if their photos don't turn out quite as they had hoped. Learning any new skill is a process, and I help them enjoy the journey.
Imagination is a fantastic antidote to boredom. This will be a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment for students to challenge themselves creatively.
Two partial scholarships are available for BIPOC students. Please email me for more info.
