One-on-one mentorship

One-on-one mentorship

One on one mentorship is for teens who are serious about photography or who want personalized instruction. This format gives us the flexibility to follow the student's curiosity and explore certain topics in depth. Students at all levels, from beginner to advanced, could benefit from one on one mentoring.

We can use the smartphone or digital camera class curriculum as a guide or we can determine a custom curriculum. Other topics to explore include:

  • Intermediate and advanced lighting, composition and photo structure
  • Understanding various photographic styles and conventions
  • Building a portfolio
  • Overcoming limited resources (whether that be lack of equipment, quarantine restrictions or otherwise)
  • Editing using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
  • Creating and analyzing conceptual and art photography

Once the student is registered, I will send them a quiz to determine their knowledge and interests. We will then meet for about 20 minutes to go over the quiz and determine a roadmap for their instruction.

We will meet for about an hour. In that hour, we will cover one or two topics, complete an exercise and discuss how the student can apply this skill to their photography practice.

One on one instruction allows me to take the time each student needs to understand the concepts while also not wasting time on topics that don't interest them or that they already understand. Photography can get complicated and overwhelming. The main benefit of working one on one is having the flexibility to adapt the material and pace to be right for each individual.

I will be available for office hour style q&a once a week.

After each class, I will email a downloadable pdf summary of the lesson.

Payment plans are available on request.
